I highly recommend them to everyone and will make them my forever dental office for future needs. Thank you Dr. Rathke and your staff for a great all around experience.

New to the area and found them online. They were able to take me the same day. The staff is very polite, the hygienist Ana was incredible and Dr. Rathke is a super cool dude. Very honest and thorough. I highly recommend and can't wait to go back to get my fillings and crowns.

Welcome to Our Practice

Welcome to Downtown Dental, the office of New Orleans dentist Dr. Richard Rathke.

From our centrally located position in the Central Business District, we are pleased to provide our patients in New Orleans with high-quality dental care, including general, cosmetic, and restorative treatment.

Dr. Rathke has a highly skilled mix of experience, expertise, and compassion that his patients appreciate. We take pride in our consistent and reliable exceptional dental care coupled with gentle and kind patient service.

Whether you’re in town visiting our great city and need immediate dental care or are shopping for a new family dentist—we offer reliable dental procedures for everyone.

Our Focus Is on the Patient

Whether you are on vacation, a new patient, or you have been with our practice for years, your concerns and needs are equally important to us. We genuinely care about our patients, and we treat them the way we ourselves would like to be treated.

If you are feeling anxious about your appointment or it’s been a while since you have seen the dentist, rest assured that we will do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable while you are here. We offer nitrous oxide for nervous patients and a judgment-free practice for those who haven’t been in the dental chair for a while. Our goal is to ensure you can enjoy good oral health for a lifetime.

Dental anxiety is a common fear among patients who have had a bad experience as a child or with a different dentist. At Downtown Dental, our patients have come to expect our kind and gentle manner. We work hard to make you feel comfortable and secure during each dental visit; in fact, you may find yourself looking forward to visiting with us!

We Provide Convenience and Quality

Everyone is busy these days, so we are open during the lunch hour to accommodate our working patients. We try to make your time with us as efficient as possible, which is why we are pleased to offer some of the latest in dental technology. Not only does it enable us to make more accurate diagnoses, but it often means less time in the dental chair.

Do You Have a Dental Emergency?

We are also available to treat dental emergencies, whether or not you are a patient of record. We know that dental emergencies can strike at any time—even on vacation! Don’t try to wait until you fly back to treat your dental pain; the pain will only get worse and may ruin your vacation.

Frequently, we can see you on the same day you call us. We know that dental emergencies can make people feel stressed out and unsure of how to proceed. Depending on the type of dental emergency you have, we can provide tips on how to take action and minimize your discomfort while preventing further damage.

Your New Orleans dentist is always available to call for further clarification, but in the meantime, here are three steps you can take to keep your oral health safe until you can come to see us for treatment.

  • Tooth Pain—This is typically the reason most patients come to see us right away. Toothaches can be severe and debilitating and often signal that something serious is occurring that needs to be treated right away. Tooth pain doesn’t just go away, so don’t try to “tough it out.” Instead, try an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen to minimize your discomfort. A cold compress can numb the area until you come in to see us.
  • Fractured Tooth—It can be pretty scary to realize you’ve broken or chipped your tooth. If you find yourself with a broken tooth, try to salvage as many pieces of your tooth. The sooner you can see Dr. Rathke, the better our chances of saving your tooth are.
  • Knocked-Out Tooth—If you have knocked a tooth out, try to hold it in your mouth between your gum and cheek so that the tooth does not dry out. Dr. Rathke may be able to restore your tooth back in its socket, but we must see you shortly after the incident.

Call your New Orleans emergency dentist, Dr. Rathke, immediately so that we can help save your smile. If you’re not sure if you’re going through a dental emergency, give us a call. It’s always better to be safe rather than sorry, and besides, we always enjoy talking with our patients.

We Value Patient Education

Our dental practice is built on a foundation of patient education because the fear of the unknown can be a real issue when it comes to treatment recommendations. This is why it is so crucial that our patients understand completely why we have recommended a specific procedure.

Dr. Rathke and his team are happy to take all the time needed to ensure you can make an educated decision about your treatment options. We will go over all the dental procedures you are a candidate for and alternative dental options. He will not proceed with or pressure you into any dentistry but will instead provide you with the information you need so you can be fully confident with your choice.

We want our patients to be active participants in their own dental health.
