Woman getting veneers placed in New Orleans

If you’ve ever dreamed of having bright, white, and dazzling teeth, maybe you’ve considered dental veneers.

Veneers are tiny, thin, wafer-like shells of porcelain that attach to the front of your natural teeth. These shells hide imperfections and cover unwanted blemishes in your smile, leaving you with a beautiful, movie star-like look.

In this blog, our New Orleans dentist briefly outlines the veneers procedure and what to expect when getting this treatment at our local dental office.

Preparing for Dental Veneers in New Orleans

Here at Downtown Dental, we place veneers over the course of two different dental visits.

The First Visit

During your first veneer appointment, Dr. Rathke focuses on preparing your teeth for the final, finished veneer product.

Because dental veneers attach to your natural teeth, they add a small amount of bulk and dimension to your teeth. If we were to adhere the veneer shells to your teeth without any prep work, your teeth would look too large and unnatural. Therefore, to make room for the veneers, we will remove a minimal amount of enamel from each tooth receiving a veneer.

This process is the standard for dental veneers and is completely safe when performed by a licensed New Orleans dentist. Your teeth will still look and feel totally normal, but they will now be ready for their new layer of veneers.

After we prepare your teeth, we will create temporary tooth veneers for you to wear for several weeks.

The Second Visit

After you return home with your set of temporary veneers, our dental lab gets to work creating your permanent ones. This production typically takes a week or two, and our dental office will contact you as soon as your veneers are ready!

Once we have the shells and are ready to place them, you’ll return for your second dental appointment. During this appointment, Dr. Rathke will permanently bond your veneers to the front of each tooth using a special dental cement or bonding putty. Then, you’ll be ready to start sharing your sparkling new smile with the world!
